Why the Netherlands

From international blockbusters to high-end Tv-series, productions choose the Netherlands for its versatility, efficiency and our straightforward, collaborative spirit.

The Netherlands is known for its great variety of amazing film locations, dramatic Dutch light and scattering skies. In addition, the Dutch cast and crews are known for their practical, precise and partner-minded approach. They are people who get things done, even in the smallest canals and busiest streets.

Based at the heart of Europe

The Netherlands is right in the heart of Europe and very well connected. Every corner of the Netherlands is within two hours of Schiphol and in addition, there's regional airports in Rotterdam, Eindhoven and Maastricht for an even quicker connection to the borders of Belgium and Germany. On top of that, the Netherlands has a very tight and compact train- and roac network. Historic city centres, industrial harbours, coastal dunes, open polders, contemporary architecture — you can shoot across multiple completely different worlds in a single day.

Practical, experienced English speaking crews

The Dutch film and television industry runs on short lines of communication, a can-do attitude, and fluent English-speaking professionals. Crews here are non-union and flat in structure, so producers deal directly with the people doing the work.

The Netherlands also offers a well-developed infrastructure for post-production, VFX, and animation. So if you bring your production and your post-production to the Netherlands, our 35% cash rebate becomes even more worthwhile.

35% Cash Rebate

No complicated tax credits or deferred settlements, just a straightforward 35% cash rebate on qualifying production spend in the Netherlands. That makes the business case simple and fast to calculate for international producers. With a cap of €3 million per project, our incentive is ideally geared towards budgets up to €15 million.

Stable, reliable and transparant productionsystem

The Netherlands has a well-earned global reputation for legal certainty, administrative reliability, and a pragmatic approach to regulation. For international productions operating across large budgets, complex contracts, and multiple jurisdictions, this is not a nice-to-have, it is a prerequisite.

Visual variety

Nowhere else looks quite like the Netherlands. Canals and canal houses, windmills, complex marine architecture, polders lying below sea level, the Rotterdam skyline, industrial ports, medieval city centres, sweeping coastal dunes: the country carries a visual signature that is difficult to replicate anywhere else, and versatile enough to serve an exceptionally wide range of stories.
